Cross-curricular
Science: Students learn about the rainforest ecosystem.
Classroom (language arts and social studies): Spend 6 periods, plus extra read-alouds. We defined rainforests and located them on the map and globe. We identified the layers and animals that live in each one. We discussed many foods and products that come from the rain forest, destruction, and impact. After the children chose an animal from the site, they wrote a report at school and completed a shoebox project at home.
Library: research and read a story
Computer Class: research and computer project

Sources
Students go to the library to find books on their animal. There are also books they can use in the science room.

Students use computers to access the Grymes Rainforest Animal website. This site is designed for emergent readers and provides all the information they need for the project.
